We were thrilled to work on Amano from concept through to completion. We worked closely with our sister company Chalk Architecture on a scheme to excavate a basement from underneath the Grade two listed building and then extend the building out into the external courtyard creating an ‘orangery’ style restaurant.

We took translation of ‘Amano’ as ‘made by hand’ and expanded on that. Materiality reflects something rustic and ‘Real’. We have used a beautiful wall finish which is made of clay and has an artisanal imperfection to it. We have used it throughout the internal orangery area alongside blackened timber cladding, green plant wall and marble table tops. The final product should have a sense of classic Italian courtyard meets contemporary Italian restaurant which is warm, welcoming and un pretentious.
